For more than a century, artists have been moving light through darkness. Yet the art form itself has never had a widely accepted definition or framework until now.

The Art of Light Painting is the first book to present Light Painting as an independent fine art built upon the intentional movement of light through space over time.

In this book, Jason D. Page establishes the language, principles, and philosophy that define the art form. Through more than one hundred pages of original Light Paintings and explanations, readers will discover why Light Painting is its own expressive art form, where light is the medium, movement is the creative act, space is the environment, and time is the canvas.

Inside you'll discover:

What Light Painting truly is and why it deserves recognition as its own art form.
The Three Core Light Painting Techniques.
How light, movement, space, and time work together to create every Light Painting.
Some fundamental Light Forms that appear throughout the medium.
How to compose, evaluate, and better understand Light Paintings.
Philosophy, history, and vocabulary of the Light Painting art form.

Whether you are an established Light Painter, artist, historian, curator, photographer, educator, student, or simply someone fascinated by creativity and light, this book offers a new way of seeing one of the world's most captivating visual arts.

The Art of Light Painting is a framework for understanding an art form that has been evolving for generations.

Light Painting is the intentional movement of light through space over time.

The camera records. The Light Painter creates. The medium is light.
